Dog Bites
The Scrappers are currently second in the New York Penn League in home runs (19) and third in pitching strikeouts (290). However, Mahoning Valley as a club has struck out more times (305) this season than any other team but two (Staten Island, Aberdeen)…Scrappers’ third baseman James Roberts snapped out of a 3 for 16 slump last night by reaching base four times including two base hits. The 15th round selection from Southern Cal is batting .311 (23-74) with eight RBIs and 23 games…Juan Herrera hit his first home run as a Scrapper last night. Herrera has hit consistently since he began playing in the Indians’ system. He has hit near or above .280 throughout his career with the Tribe’s minor league organization…This is the Muckdogs’ first season as an affiliate of the Miami Marlins. The club spent the previous six seasons under the St. Louis Cardinals’ organizational umbrella…Doc Ellis, Cito Gaston, Kelly Gruber, Ryan Howard and Chase Utley are only a select few of the players who have competed in Batavia over the years.
