CLEVELAND (AP) — A talk radio host who invited a woman held captive in a Cleveland home for a decade to a music festival says he was as surprised as anyone when she showed up.

Shane French told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Sunday that he issued an impromptu invitation to Amanda Berry on his show a few weeks ago but didn’t know she was listening. The host of Rover’s Morning Glory on WMMS in Cleveland says he could tell Berry was overwhelmed by the crowd’s cheers when she accompanied him onstage.

Berry’s appearance came a day after her abductor, Ariel Castro, pleaded guilty in the case.

It was the first time Berry had appeared publicly since her rescue with two other women also held captive by Castro.
