Former Ohio governor Ted Strickland on Monday officially endorsed Democratic challenger Ed FitzGerald in his race against incumbent Gov. John Kasich.

Strickland, a fellow Democrat, said during a conference call with reporters on Monday that FitzGerald is the best man for the job.

“Ed is devoted to public service and improving the lives of others,” Strickland said. “And I’ve watched this guy over the past few months and it’s become very clear to me that he gets it and he gets it done.”

A poll taken last month shows FitzGerald trailing Kasich by 14 points. The poll also showed a significant number of those polled don’t know enough about the Cuyahoga County executive to form an opinion.
