Serbian leader to oust finance minister in shakeup

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia’s prime minister says he is ousting the finance and economy minister as part of a government reshuffle designed to speed up the Balkan country’s economic recovery.

Ivica Dacic said Tuesday that Mladjan Dinkic has been offered a chance to stay in the government in a different position but there’s no deal yet.

Dacic says the country has “no time for mistakes.” He adds that “economy and finance are the most important issues for the future of Serbia.”

Dacic did not specify why Dinkic was being replaced and did not immediately announce any other changes. He hinted at disagreements among parties in the governing coalition over the reshuffle.

The European Union has agreed to open accession talks with Serbia after Belgrade reached a deal normalizing ties with Kosovo in April.
