Annual dog show under way in Canfield

One of the largest dog shows in the country is taking place again this weekend at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

The annual Steel Valley Cluster Dog Shows began Thursday and will feature nearly 2,000 dogs and their owners through Sunday. The event attracts more than 1,000 spectators each day, giving a boost to the local economy.

In addition to the shows, there also will be more than 100 vendors offering pet products. The show itself features many categories, including best of show, obedience and junior showmanship for handlers 10 to 18.

The winners from the junior showmanship competition each day will compete on Sunday for a $1,000 scholarship offered by the Steel Valley Cluster and the show’s sponsor, Purina.

Admission is $5 per vehicle.

The Steel Valley Cluster consists of Mahoning-Shenango Kennel Club, Beaver County Kennel Club, Columbiana County Kennel Club and Ft. Steuben Kennel Association.
