Couple shot, beaten in robbery attempt

A couple in Sharon was attacked, shot and beaten during a robbery attempt.

Police said a middle-aged man and woman were walking home from an all-night grocery store around 2:30 a.m. Friday when a man approached them on Silver Street. The suspect demanded money and when the couple tried to run away, the robber shot the man in the groin and leg and pistol whipped the woman.

The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center and the woman is in Sharon Regional Hospital.

Police are still looking for the suspect who is described as a black man wearing dark clothing
