Food giveaway held in Warren

On Thursday, Warren City Schools gave out free bags of fresh produce to families who might need a little extra help buying groceries this summer.

The food giveaway was held at the Greater Apostolic Faith Church in Warren and was sponsored by Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s office. Second Harvest Food Bank delivered the locally grown fruits and vegetables to the church and members of Warren City School’s Food Service Department helped distribute the food to area families.

The event was part of Warren City Schools Summer Feed Program, which provides breakfast and lunch to area kids.

“I see so many of the kids in the neighborhood that’s going hungry this summer because we don’t have stuff for them. A lot of people are out of work and I just thank God we have funds and are able to do this,” said school employee Pearlie Philips.

Warren City Schools has participated in the food giveaway for the past five years.
