A Coitsville man whose home was raided earlier this week is facing federal charges after he admitted to investigators he downloaded more than 4,000 child pornography files to the computer in his trailer park home.

Paul C. Schumacher, 50, of 17 Hop St., was charged by U.S. Secret Service agents in U.S. District Court in Cleveland on charges of receiving and distributing child pornography. Child porn charges filed against Schumacher in Campbell Municipal Court were dismissed in favor of the federal prosecution.

Schumacher is scheduled for a preliminary and detention hearing Tuesday in Cleveland.

An affidavit filed for Schumacher’s arrest says Special Service agents working with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force found on June 19 that Schumacher’s Internet Protocol address was sharing 6,373 files, including 4,146 files of suspected child pornography.

The affidavit says the child porn files were identified through a database that collects hash values of files previously identified as depicting child from federal investigations and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The Secret Service agent identified five of the downloaded files depicted child porn. The affidavits detailed the photos, which described naked “pre-pubescent” and “pre-teen” girls in sexualized poses.

Agents tracked down Schumacher using his IP address and obtaining various subpoenas and search databases.

Another woman lived in the home with Schumacher, but investigators identified Schumacher because his nickname on one of child porn sharing sites was “Paul,” the affidavit says. One of the photos depicts a girl who is 7 years old, the affidavit says.

Investigators raided his home Wednesday.

Schumacher admitted to investigators to downloading child porn to investigators. He told he searched for files associated with child pornography.

The affidavit says during a cursory search of Schumacher’s home computer, they found 50 files each containing numerous images and videos depicting child pornography.
