NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Three days of music kicks off in Newport, as Natalie Cole headlines the first night of the 2013 Newport Jazz Festival.
Cole takes the stage Friday evening at the International Tennis Hall of Fame for the festival’s first performances before it moves to historic Fort Adams on Narragansett Bay on Saturday and Sunday.
The Bill Charlap Trio will also play, along with Cole’s uncle, pianist and vocalist Freddy Cole, on Friday evening. Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea are set to play later in the weekend, along with dozens of other veteran and up-and-coming jazz musicians from around the world.
Other featured artists include Esperanza Spalding’s Radio Music Society, Joshua Redman Quartet and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
