Mercer County man arrested for growing marijuana

Pot raid investigation

A 63-year old Pennsylvania man who was on the run for years has been sentenced to jail for growing marijuana in a corn field.

The Sharon Herald reported Gregory L. Caskey was originally charged in 2005 for growing marijuana in Mercer County. That’s about 75 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Caskey fought those charges and then vanished in late 2006 or early 2007, but he was arrested at the Houston airport last January. He was sentenced last week to 20 months to 5 years in jail, with credit for 226 days already served.

Caskey says he spent the six years on the run in West Virginia, building a home on a buddy’s land and doing odd jobs to support himself and his wife.
