1 killed, 6 wounded in string of Toledo shootings

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Police in Toledo were investigating the latest in a string of shootings that left one person dead and six wounded over two days.

The latest was a midday drive-by shooting Monday that left two people hurt.

The Blade newspaper (http://bit.ly/1b882vs ) reports that 24-year-old Marvin Smith, Jr. was fatally shot early Sunday in south Toledo by armed security guards at a bar where he had been involved in a dispute.

Police said Smith was a gang member who allegedly fired into a large crowd and turned his gun on two armed security guards, who returned fire. Police said a grand jury will determine if charges are warranted.

It’s unclear if any of the shootings were related.
