Officer shoots suspect in failed Ohio robbery

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police say a man who attempted to rob a man entering a bank in central Ohio was shot by an officer.

The Columbus Dispatch reports policy say a special-duty officer hired by the bank and a police officer were inside the bank when they were alerted to the attempted robbery happening outside the facility.

Columbus Police spokesman Sgt. Rich Weiner told the newspaper he did not know how the officers confronted the suspect or which officer fired his gun. He says a gun was found at the scene.

Weiner says he is not aware of whether the police officer was in the bank as a costumer or was in uniform. He says the suspect was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
