Ohio judge enters not guilty pleas for Ky. couple

HILLSBORO, Ohio (AP) — A judge has entered not guilty pleas for a Richmond, Ky., couple facing various charges including murder in connection with the discovery of a child’s body in southwest Ohio.

The Times-Gazette of Hillsboro (http://bit.ly/1bdbftH ) reports Judge Rocky Coss entered the pleas for 26-year-old Whitney Johnson and 25-year-old Nathan Ritze when they were not represented by attorneys during Wednesday’s arraignment.

Coss set a $250,000 bond for each defendant and appointed a new attorney for Johnson. The attorneys did not respond to requests for comment.

The body of a 1-year-old child was found May 31 in woods near Hillsboro in southwest Ohio. Police say the couple told them they buried Johnson’s son Garin Niehaus (NEE’-hows) on Dec. 19. Police say earlier that Johnson told them the child had pneumonia.
