The nation’s weather

Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, August 08, 2013. The main driving feature in the weather around the country Thursday will be a long front that will stretch from the Northeast through the Central Plains. This front will carry a moderate amount of moisture that will produce moderate rainfall through the Northeast as the front moves through. Farther to the west, a considerable amount of moisture will pool along the front from the panhandle of Texas through southern Illinois. This moisture will have the capability of producing severe thunderstorms that could produce large hail, heavy rain, strong wind, and even a tornado or two. Residents in the Central Plains should monitor local weather conditions and be prepared to protect life and property should severe weather develop.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system will approach the the West Coast, bringing rain to mainly higher elevations of Northern California and Oregon. This system will also provide cooler than normal temperatures through California. These cool conditions will be accompanied by an increase in onshore flow and coastal clouds that will keep coastal areas very cool and windy.

The Northeast will rise into the 70s and some 80s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 90s and some 100s. The Southern Plains will rise into the 90s and 100s, while the Southwest will see similar temperatures. The Northwest will rise into the 70s and 80s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday have ranged from a morning low of 32 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont. to a high of 107 degrees at Wichita Falls, Texas
