Ohio woman sentenced in 4-year-old son’s death

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio woman convicted of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering in her 4-year-old son’s death has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says 26-year-old Heaven Lenoir was sentenced Thursday in Dayton for causing the death last year of Alonza Lenoir.

The Dayton woman pleaded guilty last month to the charges. She had been charged with murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser manslaughter charge in a plea agreement. She could have faced 15 years to life in prison if convicted of murder.

Police responded to Lenoir’s home June 29, 2012, on a report that a child wasn’t breathing after falling down stairs. Investigators determined the injuries weren’t consistent with a fall.

A message seeking comment was left for Lenoir’s attorney on Thursday.
