TAG searches ‘heroin house’

Heroin overdose

Drug task force agents in Newton Falls arrested two people and found heroin inside a home where they believe residents were selling drugs.

Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force investigators said they were surveying the home they believe is a “known heroin house” on Friday when a group of people left the residence, including one with outstanding felony warrants.

Agents pulled the vehicle over on Freedom Street and a man, Derrin L. Lough, 21, jumped out of the car and led agents on a short foot chase.

Lough’s warrants are for charges of tampering with evidence, resisting and assault, reports said.

While agents were with the other three people inside the car, police said Justin D. Balch, 21, dropped a syringe on the ground. TAG agents reported they also found a small plastic bag of suspected heroin in Balch’s pocket. He was booked into the county jail on drug possession charges.

Investigators then searched the suspected drug house and found five grams of suspected heroin, a scale, paraphernalia and other unknown drugs, agents said.

Other charges will be filed after drug test results are returned.
