Funeral to be held for Texas A&M football player

COLLEYVILLE, Texas (AP) — Players from the Texas A&M football team are attending the funeral of a teammate who died in a car accident in New Mexico.

The service for 19-year-old Polo Manukainiu (mah-NOO’-ky-uh-noo), a redshirt freshman at A&M last season, was being held Saturday morning at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Fort Worth suburb of Colleyville.

The defensive lineman had played for Trinity High School’s football team in nearby Euless.

Manukainiu and two other teens died July 29 when their vehicle rolled as they were driving from Utah to Texas. Also killed were 18-year-old Utah recruit Gaius “Keio” Vaenuku (GYE’-uhs vah-eh-NOO’-koo), a former Trinty teammate of Manukainiu, and 13-year-old Andrew “Lolo” Uhatafe (oo-HAH’-tah-fay), an incoming freshman at the high school.

The three came from Euless’ tight-knit Tongan community.
