The nation’s weather

Weather Underground Forecast for Monday, August 12, 2013.

Wet and unsettled weather will continue for parts of the East and Plains on Monday as a pair of frontal disturbances remain over the region.

In the South, a long frontal boundary that has remained nearly stationary from the Mid-Atlantic States through the Lower Eastern Valley into Texas during the last few days will begin to lift northward on Monday. Waves of low pressure will enhance energy along the front as it becomes positioned from the Mid-Atlantic States through the Central Plains. Sufficient moisture along and to the south of this disturbance will support continued areas of scattered showers and thunderstorms from areas of the Mid-Atlantic through the Deep South. Areas of southeastern Kansas into areas of southwestern Missouri and northwestern Arkansas may see isolated areas of heavy rain along with possible localized flooding.

Meanwhile, to the north, another frontal disturbance with waves of low pressure will drop southward across the Midwest with showers and thunderstorms and enhance storms in the Central Plains. In addition to heavy rain, isolated large hail and damaging wind will become likely in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma.

Out West, monsoonal moisture will continue across areas of the Four Corners with more afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 32 degrees at Truckee-Tahoe, Calif. to a high of 100 degrees at Fort Worth NAS, Texas
