Austintown school district opens road

The Austintown School District opened a new access road on Monday that will make commuting to and from the campus easier and safer.

School officials, township trustees and county commissioners celebrated the opening of a new section of Idaho Road. The road had been a dead-end, blocking access to New Road and Mahoning Avenue.

A traffic study of the campus conducted by the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission revealed opening the road would make traffic flow to and from the campus much smoother and safer.

“This is coming at just the right time to begin the 2013-2014 school year,” said David Schnurrenberger, president of the Austintown Board of Education.

The township, county and state helped to fund the $750,000 project.
