Sweden: Convicted serial shooter confesses

STOCKHOLM (AP) — A man sentenced to life in prison for a string of shootings against immigrants in the Swedish city of Malmo has confessed to one of the murders.

Peter Mangs had so far denied his involvement in a nearly decade-long spate of shootings and murders of immigrants. A court found him guilty in July 2012 of two murders and four attempted murders. His case was compared to that of the right-wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in neighboring Norway in 2011.

In an interview with local daily Sydsvenskan published Monday, Mangs said he shot and killed a 20-year-old woman and injured her 22-year-old friend.

Mangs told the newspaper his aim was to punish criminals and that the couple’s car “gave a criminal impression.”
