Western Pa. boy, 4, drowns in neighbor’s pool

COWANSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — State police say a 4-year-old boy has drowned after climbing a locked gate to get into a neighbor’s swimming pool.

Troopers from the Kittanning barracks were called after little Colby Nickel wandered from home in Washington Township, Armstrong County, late Saturday afternoon.

The boy’s family found him motionless in a neighbor’s pool and called 911. Police later determined the boy climbed over the gate that blocks access to the above-ground pool’s deck and either jumped or fell into the water.

Police aren’t sure how long the boy was in the pool before he was found about 7 p.m.

He was flown to Children’s Hospital of UPMC, where he was pronounced dead. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled his death an accident.
