Dream comes true in Boardman

Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman teamed up with Giant Eagle to make a resident’s dream come true.

Joyce Martin has always wanted to learn how to decorate cupcakes and she is a faithful watcher of the Food Network and the cable show “The Cake Boss.” Shepherd of the Valley made her dream a reality through the Second Wind Dream program, a national program that grants the wishes of residents in retirement communities.

“I’ve been working with her husband and with Giant Eagle and her best friends for about two and half months trying to get this together,” said Kim Osborn, activity director.

Through all the planning, Osborn was able to enlist the help of a cake decorator from the Giant Eagle at 476 Boardman-Canfield Road in Boardman to come over and give Joyce a cupcake decorating class.

“The staff here really went out of their way to accommodate that, so I’m really appreciative,” said Martin.

After the class, Shepherd of the Valley surprised Martin with lunch with her family members and close friends.
