The nation’s weather

Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, August 14, 2013.

Wet and unsettled weather will gradually taper off in the Northeast on Wednesday, while unsettled weather continues in the Southeast into the Plains.

In the North, showers and thunderstorms in the Northeast will wind down across the Northeast as the northern portion of a cold front impacting the region moves offshore into the Atlantic Ocean with an associated trough of low pressure. As this disturbance departs, high pressure over the Midwest will spread across the region with drier and cooler weather conditions. Well below normal temperatures for this time of year are anticipated for the Midwest, Northeast, and into portions of the upper Mid-Atlantic States as the cooler airmass settles to the east. Daytime highs may run up to 10-15 degrees below normal through the midweek.

Meanwhile, to the south of this activity, ample moisture pooling along the southern portion of the aforementioned frontal boundary will lead to continued showers and thunderstorms across the Deep South. Heavy rain near the Gulf Coast may translate into areas of flooding.

In the Plains, showers and thunderstorms are also expected in the Rockies and High Plains as sufficient moisture and a frontal disturbance lingers over the region.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Tuesday have ranged from a morning low of 32 degrees at West Yellowstone, Mont. to a high of 100 degrees at Yuma MCAS, Ariz.
