YSU’s defensive backfield suffered a major loss following the arrest of starting cornerback Dale Peterman, who failed to appear in court from two previous arrests. Penguins’ head coach Eric Wolford says Peterman is suspended from the team, pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

Wolford says he was not aware of those previous arrests and planned to address the team Wednesday evening regarding the incident. Peterman, an Ursuline High School graduate, started all 11 games for the Penguins last season. He racked up 50 tackles with seven pass break-ups.

Peterman has been out of action with a knee injury for the past several weeks and was expected to miss the first few games of the regular season prior to the arrest.
