The family and friends of a 15-year-old Dayton boy killed in Mercer County by a suspected drunk driver say he pushed a 6-year-old out of the way of the vehicle.
Police said a pickup, driven by Brittany Raskowsky, 25, drove off Old Ash Road in Springfield Township and traveled about 80 yards through a field before it hit Austin Rife and his mother, Stephanie Rife, 37, who were fishing at a farm pond about 11:45 p.m. on August 8.
Family friend Doug Reiber said Austin Rife saw the approaching truck and grabbed the younger boy, who was not hit.
Reiber says the Rifes were visiting from Dayton, Ohio.
The accident is under investigation and charges are pending.
