Ohio justice serving unexpired term will run again

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio (AP) — A justice elected to the Ohio Supreme Court last fall to finish an unexpired term through 2014 says she’ll run next year for a full, six-year term.

Republican Sharon Kennedy confirmed her plans to The News-Herald in Willoughby (http://bit.ly/1a4GXLO ) after visiting that area of northeast Ohio for a rotary club event.

Kennedy is a former police officer and domestic relations judge from Butler County in southwest Ohio. She calls serving on the seven-member Supreme Court “the greatest thing” she’s done.

Kennedy isn’t allowed to discuss specific cases but said she anticipates the court will start to see more cases related to the oil and gas drilling boom in eastern Ohio. She said she also considers it likely that someone will challenge the constitutionality of Ohio’s new school funding plan.
