W. Pa. woman’s death in yard deemed ‘suspicious’

ETNA, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say the death of a woman found unresponsive in a western Pennsylvania alley is suspicious, and they have her boyfriend in custody because they don’t believe his story that she hanged herself with a belt.

Allegheny County police have yet to charge that man or release his name, but say he’s being investigated in the death of 31-year-old Jessica Miller, who died at a hospital after she was found unresponsive in a backyard in Etna early Wednesday. The woman lived in an apartment on the same street.

A deputy medical examiner says it appears Miller may have been strangled, but an autopsy was scheduled to confirm that.

Police and the medical examiner’s office say her death is “suspicious.”
