Firefighters battled blazes in Youngstown

When the Youngstown Fire Department arrived, they saw flames shooting from the attic of the house, causing heavy damage to the attic and second floor.

Fire heavily damaged a two homes in Youngstown early Monday.

The first fire broke out just before 2 a.m. in the 200 block of Lincoln Park Drive.

When the Youngstown Fire Department arrived, they saw flames shooting from the attic, which caused heavy damage to the attic and second floor.

A television and a Playstation game console were found inside, but no one was home.

Neighbors said they were not sure if anyone lived there, but the house was occupied from time to time.

No word yet on a cause, but investigators don’t believe the fire was suspicious.

About five hours later, a home scheduled to be demolished caught fire. The vacant home at 219 Gaither Ave. was destroyed at about 7 a.m.

The home was vacant so firefighters let it burn to the ground while protecting neighboring occupied homes. No one was injured.
