Wet weather will continue in parts of the East on Tuesday, while thunderstorms and fire danger persist in the West.

In the East, Sufficient moisture over the southeastern quadrant of the nation will support scattered showers and thunderstorms from the Southeast through the Central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic as a weakening frontal boundary remains nearly stationary from the Central Gulf Coast to the coast of the Carolinas. Stronger storms in the region will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts and lightning. Flooding will also remain a concern in parts of the Southeast due to recent heavy rain. Elsewhere in the East, a weakening cold front will move south and stall across the region Maine on Tuesday with chances of showers and thunderstorms.

In the Plains, a disturbance in the western Gulf of Mexico will kick up chances of showers and thunderstorms in southern Texas, while a front from Canada moves into the Northern Plains with ch scattered showers and chances of thunderstorms.

Out West, monsoonal moisture triggered will maintain afternoon and evening convective activity in the Four Corners. Moisture will increase ahead of a low located off the central California coast, triggering continued chances of thunderstorms in central and northern California into southern Oregon and Idaho. Abundant lightning potential with these storms combined with dry fuels and possible gusty winds will heighten fire weather conditions in these regions.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday have ranged from a morning low of 36 degrees at Stanley, Idaho to a high of 105 degrees at Phoenix, Ariz.
