Carr leads Tigers to opening win

Christian Carr racked up 20 kills, while Cassie Murcko added 13 with 12 digs, as Howland outlasted Girard 3-2 (25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 20-25, 15-8) in high school volleyball action on Tuesday.

Kara Rushin tallied 24 assists in the win, while Bailee Wolanzyk added 10 digs. Jessie Moore finished with 13 points and five aces for the Tigers.

Taylor Bell led Girard with eight kills and six digs. Brooke Bada tallied seven kills with 10 points.

Melanie Bakes recorded 31 assists in the setback for the Lady Indians.

Howland starts the season 1-0 and returns to action on Thursday at home against Green.

Girard drops to 0-1.
