Boy shifts truck gear, is run over at Ohio home

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police in central Ohio say a 4-year-old boy who’d been playing in a parked pickup truck was run over by the vehicle and died.

Columbus police say the boy somehow shifted the vehicle into gear, and it rolled over him after he fell or jumped out of the truck Thursday morning.

Sgt. Isaac Bridges tells The Columbus Dispatch the boy’s brother had pulled into a driveway and gone inside a house, and no keys were in the vehicle at the time. Bridges said the boy’s father witnessed the accident.

The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital. His identity wasn’t immediately released.
