Coroner: Mower death of Pa. man, 71, an accident

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — The death of an elderly man who fell off a tractor that was pulling a brush mower in western Pennsylvania has been ruled an accident.

The Westmoreland County coroner’s office said after an autopsy Wednesday that 71-year-old Anders Johnson of Salem Township died of chest trauma and having his left arm amputated when he was struck by the mower.

Investigators said Johnson was found at the scene shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and pronounced dead after a deputy coroner arrived about an hour later.

Johnson was formerly an elected supervisor of the township about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.

He was reportedly mowing a neighbor’s property when he was killed.
