The nation’s weather

Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, August 25, 2013.

Heavy rainfall and flooding will persist for the Southwest on Sunday, the upper Midwest remains hot, and the Southeast will see more scattered showers on Sunday. Tropical Storm Ivo will continue making its way northward up the coast of Baja California on Sunday, pushing abundant moisture northward over far northwestern Mexico and into the Southwestern U.S. This system will bring heavy rainfall, dangerous surf, and strong winds to Baja California, thus, tropical storm warnings and advisories have been issued for most of the peninsula. At the same time, moisture from this system will also produce showers and thunderstorms across southern California, Arizona, and into southern Nevada. Flood warnings and watches have been issued for the region as the dry surface conditions of the deserts make heavy rainfall more difficult to soak into the ground and commonly results in flash flooding.

In the Southeast, an area of low pressure spinning in the northern Gulf of Mexico continues pushing warm and moist conditions into the surrounding shores. This will allow for more showers and thunderstorms to develop from eastern Texas through Florida. Meanwhile in the North, a low pressure system and associated cold front pass northeastward over the upper Midwest and into central Canada. This will allow for hot temperatures to persist for Minnesota and Wisconsin, with high temperatures reaching into the lower 90s, about 10 to 15 degrees above normal for this time of year.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday have ranged from a morning low of 32 degrees at Truckee-Tahoe, Calif. to a high of 100 degrees at McGregor, Texas
