First responders rescued a hiker from a gorge Sunday afternoon in McConnells Mill State Park.

Dispatchers with the Lawrence County 911 center said a man was hiking in the area of Breakneck Bridge when he slipped and broke his ankle.

The hiker was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

McConnells Mill Park encompasses about 2,500 acres and is located in Perry and Slippery Rock Townships.
