Crash Ambulance

A Cortland woman was killed Monday evening after colliding head-on with a semi truck on Route 5 just east of state Route 11 in Johnston Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Rachel L. Davis, 22, was driving east on state Route 5 in a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier when she crossed the center line and struck a westbound semi head-on. The crash happened about 6:35 p.m.

The 2014 Freightliner Cascadia was being driven by Rohan M. Powell, 46, of Ontario, Canada. The truck, which was hauling pet food, is owned by Shandex Truck, Inc. of Ontario.

Powell was taken to St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, where he was treated and released. Davis was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The patrol said the truck did not lose its load in the crash, but Route 5 was shut down for nearly four hours while the scene was cleared.

The crash still is under investigation.
