Copper stolen in Warren

Copper theft

Warren police are investigating several copper thefts from Monday and Tuesday.

The first one happened at a D&L Energy site behind the Trinity Baptist Church on Highland Avenue S.W.

An employee reported Monday that someone broke off copper tubing from the meter run of the well and stole 150 feet of one-quarter and three-quarter inch tubing.

Neighbors said scrap metal theft in the area is common and they are worried it could cause a disastrous situation.

“The way the guy explained it that checks the well, if someone would have lit a match or threw a cigarette, this area around here wouldn’t be here now,” said Warren resident Dave Jones. “So I don’t know what’s going on. People are getting kind of desperate stealing copper and stuff like that.”

An employee of Café 422 on Youngstown Road S.E. reported Monday someone stole copper gutters from the business during the last month. A storm sewer was also taken.
