Girl gives $4K donation to mission

A New Middletown girl made a big donation to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley.

Olivia Helmick, 8, presented a $4,000 check to the mission on Wednesday. Helmick raised the money this summer at her Second Annual Backyard Carnival at Welker Park in New Middletown.

The money will be used to provide meals and housing for more than 100 residents.

“It’s just glorious to see because it has to come from the heart, it has to come from within. You can’t influence someone to put out that work and to do that for others,” said Director Jim Echement.

Olivia will receive a young philanthropist award in November for her work.
