Bees displayed at fair

Plenty of bees were at the Canfield Fair on Friday, but they were all contained.

The Columbiana-Mahoning Bee Keepers are also set up in the Hay and Grain Barn.

It’s an organization with more than 75 members who have the goal to educate and promote bee keeping in the area.

The Bee Keepers also sell locally produced honey at their booth. Last year they sold 900 pounds to fairgoers.

“If we lost all of our bees, we would lose one-third of our food chain,” said member Bill Dehoff. “They’re very important to apples, pears, different vegetables like cucumbers and melons.”
