PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh police have charged a 67-year-old man with critically wounding his girlfriend in a hotel room near PNC Park.
Police haven’t released the woman’s name, but say she had been living in the Residence Inn her home in another part of the city was damaged in a burglary weeks ago.
About 3:30 a.m. Friday, someone called 911 to report the woman shot herself accidentally. But police determined a city man, Billy Long, shot the woman after they argued while smoking crack cocaine.
Police say the woman remained in critical but stable condition after having emergency surgery at Allegheny General Hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She’s expected to survive.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for Long, who was in custody awaiting arraignment on aggravated assault and firearms charges.
