Ex-Pa. weatherman, convicted of abuse, kills self

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A former western Pennsylvania television weatherman who served a prison term for child molestation after first fleeing to Ukraine has committed suicide in West Virginia.

The Fayette County, W.Va. sheriff’s department tells the (Johnstown) Tribune-Democrat (http://bit.ly/17ri6x4 ) that 47-year-old James Patrick Holcomb killed himself there on Aug. 23. The department doesn’t release details of suicides.

Holcomb, who used the on-air name “Jay Patrick,” worked at WOAY-TV in that state before his stint with Johnstown’s NBC affiliate, WJAC-TV. Holcomb left the Pennsylvania station in 2003 when he was charged with molesting the girl over three years, beginning when she was 6.

He pleaded no contest in 2004, but fled to Ukraine before he could be sentenced. Federal marshals tracked him down in 2009 when he was given four to 10 years in prison. He was recently paroled.
