More donations for RI charity auction

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — MTV and Comedy Central have joined singer Taylor Swift in supporting an auction to raise money for charity and celebrate a Rhode Island town’s centennial.

The organizers of West Warwick’s Centennial Ball announced Friday that Comedy Central has donated four tickets to a taping of “The Colbert Report” and that MTV has promised concert tickets and memorabilia. In addition, the Providence Performing Arts Center has donated tickets to an upcoming musical.

The new donations come after organizers announced that Swift, who owns a beach home in Westerly, had donated an autographed acoustic guitar.

The donated items will be auctioned at West Warwick’s centennial ball next month. Proceeds will benefit a local scholarship and efforts to build a memorial to the victims of the 2003 Station nightclub fire.
