Warren targets copper thefts

After recent copper thefts in the city, a Warren city councilman is working on legislation that he hopes will curb the problem.

Seventh Ward Councilman Eddie Colbert said the bill is aimed at copper products, such as tubing, gutters and wires.

Colbert said while they are drafting the measure, those selling copper to scrap yards would need a permit to show they legally obtained the items.

It would also ask for a 48-hour hold on reimbursement.  Colbert said he is talking to colleagues in other cities to adopt similar legislation.
