APNewsBreak: Ohio toddler shot in head improving

CINCINNATI (AP) — The grandfather of a 14-month-old Ohio girl shot in the head last week in an attack that killed her pregnant mother says the toddler is now talking and improving daily.

David Dodson tells The Associated Press Tuesday that his granddaughter, Aubree, has been asking for her mother as she recovers and that the family hasn’t yet told her she’s dead.

Authorities were responding to a call Aug. 28 about a single-vehicle crash when they found 22-year-old Brittany Stykes shot dead inside her car. Aubree was still strapped to her car seat, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head.

They were found on U.S. Route 68 in Ripley, 45 miles southeast of Cincinnati.

Brown County sheriff’s officials have not released a suspected motive or announced any arrests.
