Ohio woman, unborn child to be laid to rest

RIPLEY, Ohio (AP) — A young Ohio woman and her unborn child are set to be laid to rest a week after they were gunned down in a case that remains unsolved.

A funeral for 22-year-old Brittany Stykes and her unborn baby is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Salt Air Church of Christ in Tate, about 30 miles southeast of Cincinnati. The public is invited.

Authorities were responding to a call Aug. 28 about a single-vehicle crash when they found Stykes shot dead inside her car on U.S. Route 68 in Ripley, 45 miles southeast of Cincinnati. She was five months pregnant.

Her 14-month-old daughter, Aubree, was found in her car seat bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head.

Aubree’s grandfather says the toddler is improving daily and has been talking.
