Rabid bat found in Poland

A bat found in Poland has rabies and an area resident touched it, causing human exposure, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

The bat found on James Street tested positive for rabies.

It’s the sixth rabies case confirmed locally this year, including four raccoons in Mahoning County and a cat that bit a resident in Liberty Township.

The cat bite and one rabid raccoon also caused human exposure to four residents.

Rabies is a fatal viral and considered serious public health threat.
