Missing Neshannock woman found safe

A missing elderly Neshannock Township woman was found safe Thursday afternoon after wandering away from her Catalina Drive home sometime overnight.

Betty Richardson, 77, was found lying in some brush in a backyard in the 1400 block of Kings Chapel Road, according to Lawrence County news stringer Joe Sobczak. She was found about a half-mile from her home just after 5:30 p.m.

Sobczak said a man who lives next door to where Richardson was found went out looking for her on his ATV, but could not locate her. It was when he went searching on foot that he found her. Sobczak said a woman who lives at the Kings Chapel Road home told police she heard the doorbell ring at 2:30 a.m., but she did not answer the door.

Richardson was dirty, but not injured, and paramedics checked her out at the scene. Her son then took her to Jameson Hospital in New Castle for an evaluation.

Police and fire officials spent nearly the entire day searching for the woman, who is diabetic and has dementia.
