The Youngstown-Warren-Boardman metropolitan area was ranked as the 18th best region in the northeastern portion of the country for teaching as a career, according to a study released Friday.
ValuePenguin research firm compiled the top metropolitan areas for teachers based on median salaries, cost of living in that area and the number of teaching positions in the area. The statistics were based research from May 2012.
Youngstown ranked 18th in the study and the fifth best for teachers in Ohio, behind Dayton, Akron, Springfield (west of Columbus), Lima and Canton-Massillon.
“The area has one of the top ten lowest costs of living in our Northeast list,” the study says of Youngstown-Warren-Boardman region. “School teachers here can earn $54,540 in median salary. After a week’s worth of work in the classroom, teachers can unwind at the Mill Creek MetroPark’s golf courses, trails, and natural habitats.”
