Cancer study volunteers sought

Cancer prevention study

Humility of Mary Health Centers in the area are looking for help taking part in a nationwide study on cancer.

Next week, both campuses of St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown and St. Joseph Health Center in Warren will join with the American Cancer Society to gather research into the various factors that can affect an individual’s risk to different forms of cancer.

Those involved in the study are looking for adults between the ages of 30 and 65, who have never had a personal diagnosis of any type of cancer and are willing to commit to completing the study.

Organizers are hoping to recruit 200 participants locally and 300,000 nationwide.

“Well, on the day of enrollment, you have a small blood draw, some physical measurements and fill out an enrollment form,” said HMHP Oncology Outreach coordinator Vanessa Chamberlain. “And after that, every other years, you’ll get in the mail a questionnaire that you just have to fill out.”
