A house that sits directly behind the old Hostess Bakery Outlet Store in Youngstown was destroyed by fire on Friday.

The house at 21 Glacier Street caught fire at about 2:45 p.m. Friday. The resident’s dog was trapped in the basement and died in the fire, he said.

Thick black smoke emerged from the home and firefighters said the home was gutted.

Firefighters are still investigating what caused the fire and how badly the home was damaged. The resident told WKBN the gas in his home was shut off and he was using a space heater. The man said he believes that somehow caused the fire.

The home next door caught fire briefly, causing a mother and two kids to evacuate the home.
