Ohio senator in Washington for Syria briefings

CINCINNATI (AP) — Ohio’s Republican U.S. senator has canceled a trip to New Hampshire to be in Washington for classified briefings on Syria.

Rob Portman of the Cincinnati area says he is undecided on whether to support President Barack Obama’s call for a U.S. military strike against Syria.

He said in a statement Friday he has many unanswered questions, and is looking forward to hearing more about the situation directly from the administration and U.S. military leaders.

Portman had planned to take part in a Republican fundraising event in New Hampshire.

Ohio’s Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown also hasn’t decided on the Syria vote. An Associated Press survey found 36 senators in support, 29 against and 35 undecided at this point.
